Lucas Duda: Is He a Top Fantasy Baseball 2012 Sleeper Pick?

Pssst. Write down the name Lucas Duda. The New York Mets right fielder is one of the more highly-touted fantasy baseball sleepers these days. In fact, if the hype continues, he may not be a top sleeper pick, but a top fantasy baseball 2012 pick!

So who is Lucas Duda, and why are fantasy baseball players so excited about him? He is the right fielder for the New York Mets, who first came up to the majors as a September call up in 2010. In 2011, he hit .292, with a .370 OBP, 10 homers, and 50 RBIs in 100 games last year. This year, none other than Mets manager Terry Collins calls Lucas Duda a "dynamic talent" and says he has "power supreme."

In his short time with the team, Lucas Duda has also become a Met fan favorite, and some say that "Dudaism" could become a fan favorite, along the lines of "Tebowmania" and "Linsanity." Not that popularity matters at all in fantasy baseball 2012, but what it does mean is that you may have to compete with Met fans to potentially draft Duda on your fantasy team.

Another thing that plays in Lucas Duda's favor, and makes him one of the top fantasy baseball sleepers out there, is that the Citi Field fences have been moved in. Not only could this benefit both him and teammates David Wright and Jason Bay for 2012, but it could affect what happens in fantasy baseball 2012.

Could the hype on Lucas Duda be just that - hype? That could be, due to the fact that Mets fans have very little to root for, with Jose Reyes taking his talents to South Beach. The reality is: not only has he shown signs of being a very good player, and that it is very possible that the Citi Field fences being moved in could help his stats. Granted, those fences being moved in also benefit the opposition, and could send Mets pitchers' stats on a downward trend. Then again, who recognizes any Mets pitchers' names other than Johan Santana?

So mark it down - put Lucas Duda on your list of fantasy baseball sleepers. If you would like to play fantasy baseball for cash and prizes, check out what we have to offer at DraftStreet. You can put your fantasy knowledge to work!
